Hi! I'm Ethan Lau, a food writer based in Kuala Lumpur. Growing up, if I wasn't kicking a ball on a pitch somewhere, I was standing in the kitchens and cellars of my parents' restaurants and bars, snacking on beef cheeks or learning to open a bottle of wine before I could drink (legally).

I played soccer as a student-athlete through college in the U.S., but it didn't take long to work out that writing about fish head curry came a lot more naturally to me than curling a free kick into the top corner. Since then, I've written about food for the Malay Mail and the MICHELIN Guide Kuala Lumpur and Penang.
